پہلے ہم steriod کی کیمسٹری کی بات کرتے ہیں۔ steriods، فیٹ کی ایک قسم ہے اور کولیسٹرول سے بنتے ہیں، باقی فیٹ کے مالیکولز کے برعکس ان کا مالیکول ring form میں ہوتا ہے، ایک عام steriod کے مالیکول میں 17 کاربن atoms ہوتے ہیں جو کہ 4 rings میں ایک دوسرے کے ساتھ جڑے ہوتے ہیں۔ مختلف steriods پر مختلف functional groups لگے ہوتے ہیں جس سے انکی مختلف پراپرٹیز سامنے آتی ہیں۔ 

اب steriods کی بیالوجی کی بات کریں تو steriods تقریباً ہر سیل میں ہی پائے جاتے ہیں، مگر انکا main کام ہارمون کے طور پر ہے۔ ہمارے جسم میں 3 قسم کے ہارمونز ہوتے ہیں

1- پروٹین سے بنے ہوئے

2- امائین (amine) سے بنے ہوئے

3- سٹیروئڑ (steriods) سے بنے ہوئے

تقریباً تمام جنسی ہارمونز (sex hormones) سٹیروئڈ ہوتے ہیں، جیسے کہ مردوں کا بنیادی اور main جنسی ہارمون "ٹیسٹوسٹیرون" steriod ہے اور اس ٹیسٹوسٹیرون سے بننے والے مردوں کے دوسرے ہارمونز بھی steriods ہوتے ہیں۔ اسی طرح عورتوں کے بنیادی اور main جنسی ہارمون بھی steriods ہیں جیسے کے progesterone اور estrogen وغیرہ۔ جنسی ہارمونز کے علاؤہ کچھ اور ہارمونز بھی ہوتے ہیں جو کہ steriods ہیں، ان میں adrenal gland کے کچھ ہارمونز شامل ہیں جن میں mineralocorticoid، glucocorticoids اور adrenal gland  میں بننے والے مردانہ ہارمون (androgens)

اس کے علاؤہ steriods کی ایک خاص قسم ہے جسے corticosteroids کہتے ہیں، یہ جسم میں ہونے والی inflammation کو روکتی ہے۔ inflammation کیا ہے؟ جب کسی جگہ چوٹ سے، یا کسی بیماری سے ، یا کسی الرجی کی وجہ سے جسم کے اس حصے کی رگیں پھیل جاتی ہیں، خون وہاں پر اکھٹا ہوجاتا ہے، وہ حصہ گرم ہوجاتا ہے اور وہاں سوزش اور درد ہوتا ہے اس سارے عمل کو ہم inflammation کہتے ہیں۔ corticosteroids اس inflammation کو کم کرتے ہیں

اس ساری بات بتانے کا مقصد یہ ہے کہ ہم جسم میں steriods کا role دیکھیں۔ سو ہم نے steriods کے دو رول دیکھے 

👈 بطور مردانہ ، زنانہ جنسی ہارمون

👈 بطور anti inflammatory (یعنی inflammation کو روکنے اور کم کرنے والا) 

اور انہیں دو مقاصد کے لیے دوائی کی صورت میں باہر سے جسم کو steriods دیے جاتے ہیں 

پہلے مقصد کی بات کریں جس میں steriods بطور جنسی ہارمونز کے دیا جاتا ہے۔ جس طرح باڈی بلڈرز مردانہ ہارمون "ٹیسٹوسٹیرون" لیتے ہیں کیونکہ مسلز کو بڑا کرنے میں ٹیسٹوسٹیرون کا کردار ہوتا ہے۔ البتہ ان anabolic steroids کا دیر پا استعمال اور over dose دل، دماغ، گردوں اور جگر کے مسائل کی وجہ بنتا ہے اور پھر آئے روز جوان باڈی بلڈرز کی موت کی خبر ملتی ہے۔

اب دوسرے مقصد کی بات کریں یعنی steriods بطور anti inflammatory استعمال کرنے کے لیے  تو اس کے لیے بھی steriods drugs استعمال کی جاتی ہیں جن میں  glucocorticoids ہوتے ہیں، ان ادویات میں methylprednisolone اور Prednisolone وغیرہ شامل ہیں جو کہ مختلف brand names کے ساتھ بازار میں موجود ہیں

In addition to sex hormones, there are other hormones that are steroids, including some hormones of the adrenal gland, including mineralocorticoid, glucocorticoids and male hormones (androgens) produced in the adrenal gland.

In addition, there is a special type of steriods called corticosteroids, which prevent inflammation in the body. What is inflammation? When the veins of that part of the body are dilated due to an injury, or an illness, or an allergy, the blood collects there, the part becomes warm, and there is inflammation and pain throughout the process. We call it inflammation. Corticosteroids reduce this inflammation

However, prolonged use of these anabolic steroids and over dose causes heart, brain, kidney and liver problems and then there are news of death of young bodybuilders every day.
